ABOUT NUYEA
Community-Led Recovery for Northern Uganda
Northern Uganda Youth Empowerment Alliance (NUYEA) is a community-led organization working to rebuild livelihoods, restore opportunity, and strengthen long-term recovery across Northern Uganda- one family, one young person, and one community at a time.
Our Story
Born From The Community
NUYEA was established by community and youth leaders who recognized that lasting recovery in Northern Uganda requires more than rebuilding infrastructure—it requires restoring opportunity, dignity, and hope.
For many families across Northern Uganda, the effects of conflict, displacement, poverty, and limited economic opportunities continue to shape daily life. While communities have demonstrated remarkable resilience, many households still face significant barriers to long-term recovery and development.
The conflict displaced nearly two million people across Northern Uganda, forcing families into overcrowded internally displaced persons (IDP) camps for years. Children lost access to stable education, healthcare systems weakened, agricultural livelihoods were disrupted, and trauma affected entire communities.
Although active conflict ended years ago, many families continue to face poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, school dropout, untreated trauma, and limited economic opportunity.
NUYEA was created from the belief that recovery must be community-led—built on trust, cultural understanding, dignity, and sustainable opportunity.
Today, NUYEA works alongside communities in Gulu City, supporting locally led recovery initiatives in education, health, agriculture, youth empowerment, and women's economic development.
As partnerships, resources and organization capacity grow, we aim to expand our community led-programs beyond Gulu City into Amuru and Kitgum districts, reaching more communities across Northern Uganda.
