Our Programs
What We Do
NUYEA implements four interconnected programs designed alongside local communities to create lasting, sustainable change. Each program addresses a critical dimension of post-conflict recovery and is tailored to the specific needs of children, youth, women, and farming households.
01
Education & Youth Support
Helping vulnerable children and young people access education, skills training, mentorship, and opportunity to build a better future
Why This Program Matters
Thousands of children in Northern Uganda experienced interrupted schooling due to conflict and displacement. Today, school dropout rates remain high because of poverty, limited access to learning materials, and the lasting effects of trauma. Girls often face additional barriers, including early marriage and gender-based discrimination.
Our Education & Youth Support Program addresses these challenges by helping children stay in school and equipping young people with the skills they need to thrive.
What We Provide
-
School materials and learning support for vulnerable children
-
Bursaries and scholarships to cover school fees for orphans and vulnerable youth
-
Girls' education support including mentorship and safe spaces
-
Catch-up education programs for children who missed years of school
-
Vocational training in trades, agriculture, and technical skills
-
Digital literacy skills for youth entering the modern economy
-
Youth mentorship pairing young people with local role models
Expected Outcomes
• Increased school attendance and retention
• Reduced school dropout among vulnerable children and youth
• Improved access to educational resources and mentorship
• Greater participation in vocational and skills training programs
• Enhanced youth employability and future livelihood opportunities
02
Health Support
Providing healthcare outreach, trauma healing, maternal health support, and community wellness initiatives across Northern Uganda.
Why This Program Matters
Years of conflict disrupted healthcare systems throughout Northern Uganda, leaving many communities with limited access to essential services. Health facilities were damaged, healthcare workers were displaced, and families often had to travel long distances to receive care.

Today, many communities continue to face maternal health challenges, inadequate mental health support, preventable illnesses, malnutrition, and the lasting psychological effects of displacement.
What We Provide
-
Mental health awareness and psychosocial support.
-
Maternal health education , safe motherhood training, and community healthcare referral services.
-
Community-wide health outreach clinics and preventable disease education.
-
Health promotion and disease prevention education.
Expected Outcomes
• Improved community health awareness and health-seeking behavior
• Increased access to health outreach and referral services
• Better mental health awareness and psychosocial well-being
• Improved maternal and child health knowledge
• Stronger community resilience and overall well-being
03
Agriculture & Food Security
Supporting farming families with practical training, climate-smart agriculture, and livelihood support to improve food security and household income.
Why This Program Matters
Northern Uganda's communities were subsistence farmers before the conflict. Decades of displacement meant fields were abandoned, farming knowledge was lost, and livestock were stolen or killed. Today, households are returning to the land — but without seeds, tools, training, or organized support, many struggle to produce enough food to feed their families.
Our Agriculture and food security program help families rebuild sustainable livelihoods through practical, community-based support.
What We Provide
-
Seed distribution programs for staple and income-generating crops
-
Farmer training in modern and climate-smart agricultural techniques
-
Kitchen garden programs for household nutrition
-
Nutritional support and linkages to food assistance
-
Farmer cooperative formation and market linkage support
-
Post-harvest handling and storage training
-
Livestock support for selected households
Expected Outcomes
• Increased household food production and food security
• Improved adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices
• Higher agricultural productivity and household incomes
• Stronger farmer groups and market participation
• Improved household nutrition and resilience to shocks
04
Women's Empowerment
Supporting women and war-affected mothers through economic empowerment, business training, and community support networks.
Why This Program Matters
Women in Northern Uganda carry a disproportionate burden of post-conflict recovery. Many lost husbands, brothers, and fathers to conflict. They head households, raise children, care for the elderly — often with little income, no savings, and limited support. Investing in women is one most effective ways to strengthen families and support community-wide recovery.
NUYEA's Women's Empowerment program builds economic independence, social solidarity, and leadership capacity in women across the region.
What We Provide
-
Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) for community savings
-
Business skills training and entrepreneurship development
-
Financial literacy education and banking access support
-
Psychosocial support and group therapy for trauma survivors
-
Women's leadership training and community advocacy skills
-
Income-generating activity support (tailoring, food processing, etc.)
-
Linkages to microfinance institutions and formal financial services
Expected Outcomes
• Increased women's participation in economic activities
• Improved financial literacy and savings capacity
• Greater household income and economic independence
• Stronger leadership and decision-making skills among women
• Enhanced social support networks and community engagement
